MASTERINGTEN WALLS
BALANCE.
DYNAMICS.
TRANSLATION.
The final stage before release — refining tonal balance, dynamics, level and translation while preserving the identity and movement of the mix.
02THE FINAL STAGE
THE MIX
STAYS THE MIX
Mastering is the last creative and technical pass before the track leaves the studio.
The work focuses on tonal balance, dynamics, level and how the music translates — without rewriting the mix or flattening the decisions that give it character.
The mix stays the mix. Mastering refines the whole so it holds together with clarity, weight and movement across systems.
03WHAT WE WORK ON
FINAL DETAIL.
GLOBAL BALANCE.
Areas mastering can address — not a mandatory checklist for every project.
- TONAL BALANCEOverall spectral shape and how the elements sit as one picture.
- DYNAMICSControl, impact and musical movement across the track.
- LOW-ENDWeight, definition and how the bottom end holds together.
- STEREO IMAGEWidth and focus without compromising mono or translation.
- LEVELCompetitive loudness balanced against dynamics and clarity.
- TRANSIENTSAttack, punch and how hits read in the master.
- TRANSLATIONHow the track holds up on different systems and contexts.
- FINAL COHERENCEA finished master that feels consistent and release-ready.
04DELIVERY
WHAT YOU RECEIVE
-
FINAL MASTER
A finished stereo master prepared for release.
-
MASTERING REVISION PROCESS
A reasonable revision stage after first delivery.
-
RELEASE PREPARATION
Files shaped for the release path you are working toward.
-
FEEDBACK
Short notes where useful on decisions that materially affect the result.
Mastering starts from a stereo pre-master. If the mix still needs balance, arrangement or element work, begin with Mixing first. Mixing + Mastering can be arranged as a combined project when both are required. See also Services.
05BEFORE WE START
SEND THE FINAL MIX
IN THE RIGHT SHAPE
Mastering needs a stereo pre-master — the final mix bounce — not stems by default.
Do not send SoundCloud, Spotify or YouTube links as the working files. Deliver the pre-master via Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, WeTransfer or an equivalent shareable transfer link.
- stereo pre-master of the final mix
- no clipping on the bounce
- sensible headroom left for mastering
- native sample rate of the project
- intentional bus processing kept if it is part of the sound
- optional: an unlimited / loudness-limiter-free version for reference
- short notes on what to pay attention to, deadline and release context
